1. Enjoy a day trip to Inverness, the only City in the Highlands and eleven miles from Garve.  Inverness has plenty to offer visitors to the area, not least a great selection of cafe`s and restaurants. For those not requiring retail therapy, another great attraction is Inverness Castle.  The Castle is built on the site of an earlier fortress in 1835 and sits on a low cliff overlooking the River Ness still within the `city centre`.
  2. Fort George, based 11 miles north east of Inverness, is excellent for history enthusiasts as the site depicts the life of a soldier over 200 years ago.
  3. Enjoy a trip to Nairn and experience the Dolphins up close, coupled with excellent views over Moray Firth.  Nairn is one of the three areas in the UK to support a resident population of dolphins. Dolphin trips also available.

  4. Hill Walking – huge emphasis on hill walking in Garve, mostly due to the fantastic scenery and variety on offer.  The Forestry Commission have specially constructed walkways which are a walkers paradise and of special interest to wildlife enthusiasts.  The Forestry Commission walkways take you to Silverbridge and Rogie Falls (7KM from Garve), where you may be lucky enough to spot a pine martin, wildcat or red squirrel.  More experienced walkers can tackle Ben Wyvis, The Fannichs or The Dearg.
  5. Eilean Donan Castle – Lochalsh.  One of the most iconic images of Scotland and recognised the world over.  Situated on an island at the point where all three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by magical scenery, it is little wonder that the Castle is one of the most photographed and most important visitor attractions in the Scottish Highlands.
  6. Kyle Line – experience the beautiful Scottish scenery on the world famous Kyle Line, running from Inverness to Lochalsh, as featured on Michael Palin’s ‘Great train journeys of the World.’
  7. Visit the village of Plockton, which has been described as a jewel in the Highland Crown.  It is a must before heading over the bridge to Skye.  Walking is the perfect way to explore this picturesque village, whether you prefer a gently stroll or a challenging climb to appreciate magnificent views to the Torridon Hills.  There is plenty to do and see including a visit to Duncraig Castle, situated 3 miles from Plockton.  The Living Museum is a must see before departing.  The station and platform were restored a few years ago and the buildings painted in their tradition colours in 2005.

  8. Shopping in Plockton is a rewarding and enjoyable experience.  There is everything from everyday grocers to high quality craft shops at The Studio, with ‘maritime’ flavour in ‘Hidden Treasure.’ There is also the chance to try freshly caught prawns at the pier most mid week afternoons.  There really is something for everyone to try.

  9. Isle of Skye – cross over the infamous Skye Bridge from Lochalsh and discover Skye, a natural landscape with plenty to offer.  History enthusiasts will relish in the Castles and Museums (Dunvegan Castle & Gardens, Skye Lining Museum and The Glendale Toy Museum), whilst the rugged scenery and terrain is a walkers paradise. The Old Man of Storr is said to be ‘an excellent taster for serious walking on Skye.’
  10. Armadale Castle, Gardens and Museum – Clan Donald Skye is a 20,000 acre estate which combines fantastic gardens, a fascinating museum and a popular restaurant which serves locally produced snacks and meals.  The estate is ideal for walking and wildlife enthusiasts as the estate is home to some of Scotland’s most iconic wildlife including deer, Golden Eagle and the Sea Eagle.  The principle focus of the Estate is the restored gardens and the beautiful woodland trails which weave through 40 acres of woodland around Armadale Castle. The Stables Restaurant consistently received high praise for its home baked snacks, hearty lunches and local produce.
